6 Month Doctor Visit

By far, this was the most pleasant doctor's visit, with Matthew putting on quite a show. He was wiggly, and even a bit playful. He grabbed the stethescope and wouldn't let go, causing the nurse to exclaim "wow, what a grip!" And, after turning over several times and also grabbing the paper underneath, that paper was in shreds by the time we left the office.

We saw a nurse practitioner this time, who said she thought he looks great. His weight was lower, only in the 25 percentile, but she wasn't concerned. If it goes below that, she said, there may be issues, but he's okay for now. It's possible that he's coming down to his baseline, since he got such a "start" out of the gate in high percentiles. His height was 27.5 inches, still in a high 75 percentile. View his growth chart now.

A couple of concerns from me: Matthew's constipation, which occurs about once a week (you don't want details!), and the same little lumps behind his ears. I am to feed him more water with the solid food, and as for the lumps, when she saw the remaining cradle cap areas, she is quite certain they are simply swolen glands due to that. I am to get serious about annihilating the spots on his head. Since the little behind-ear lumps are not fixed, hard or painful, she didn't think it's a cause for concern. I didn't notice these because they moved down his neck a bit, and he doesn't typically let me rub his neck. (Not a cuddler, really.)

He had 4 shots again--DTaP, Hib, Pneumococcal, and his last Hepatitis B. Of course, this was the least fun. I think he cried more than the other times and seemed to ask "why are you doing this to me??" I felt just awful, since I had to hold his arms still. He took it like a man, tho, and stopped crying in about a minute. Good boy!

We return in 6 weeks to follow up on those lumps, but his next well appointment isn't until he's 9 months old. Will he really get that old??
