Toddler Politics

It goes on everywhere because the human heart is corrupt. With toddlers, however, it is so obvious. They have their little pecking order and if you are on the outs at the moment, you might get called something. For them, you wouldn't want to be called a baby. Matthew's been called a baby, and it makes him furious. Lately, when he gets mad at Jim and I, he'll shout at us, calling us babies. (I have to bite my cheeks not to laugh at that one!)

One day, I saw the three kids (2 others in the neighborhood plus matthew) in a dispute. The eldest, a girl, shouted to her brother. "You're a baby," and added, "with DIAPERS on, IN A CRIB!"

Today, Matthew came running from the slide, away from a crying girl. He proceeded to tell me how he and another boy were calling her a baby with poopie diapers. Whew! What a varmit.

wow, what a chance to make him see how words hurt worse than a stone ever could! Sarah was told things about herself when she was little that I think she still believes at times. Try to make him see how hurtful it can be(when it happens to him) so he'll be more kind with others. I wish I had been able to convince Sarah. Words linger longer than anything when it comes to how you see yourself!
