Our Friend Ike

Well, we have some sad news. Ike became sick while we were away, and we had to put him to sleep upon our return last night. Blood work showed major kidney failure by the time we arrived at the vet last night at 6:30. In fact, he became much worse yesterday, even with much supportive care.

We're certain he was happy to see us, as evidenced by quiet (but ferocious) purring. We lost Pepper in June of 2007, now it's our gentle giant, Ike.

He was a good kitty. Born in 1993, he lived as the house "underdog" of Pepper's rule for several years, but upon his cure of diabetes in 2002, he decided he'd had enough of Pepper's shenanigans and began to fight back. Always kind of quiet, he'd make biscuits or beg for food with a faint "mew?"

His last couple of years were spent avoiding Matthew by hanging out in our room until after dinner. Then he'd emerge and join us downstairs in the evening for hair brushing and leftover pudding or ice cream. We'll miss you, Ike!

Here's a video I made last night. Press the PLAY button to view below the video. Here's a direct link to the video.
The direct link makes it bigger, but be sure to IGNORE the thing that says "Related Videos" on the right. They're not related to this at all.

Tracy, I finally got to see this beautiful tribute to Ike. I know how hard it is to let a friend like Ike go. You will always miss him but you have wonderful memories.
