I saw this a couple of weeks back and it was quite prominent. It's a bald spot. If you look closely, you can see the evidence of his "hair pop"--upturned hair all around caused by twirling with his fingers. In other words, his doing a hair pop has caused this apparent bald spot. I thought, okay, I will wash his hair and it will go away, but it didn't seem to! That makes me think, do you suppose my dad had a hair pop when he was a little boy? Hee hee. He had the bald spot later on. I wish I could ask him!
Anyhow, when I took him to get his hair cut the other day, without me pointing it out, the stylist said, "Oh my. You want to cut this (hair pop) or you will get a bald spot." If Matthew only knew our intentions.

Shelley did that once during a nap and she had a bald spot that was RED because she pulled a big wad of hair out of the top of her head! i saved it and it's in her baby book even today! there are a lot of things i'd like to ask Dad but i gotta tell you that Brad also has that bald spot (which is enlarging now) in exactly the same place! And he didn't do 'hair pops' when he was matthew's size.

I think you may be on to something with the hairpop and baldness! He's probably doing what Dad did, you're right I bet! I have known other little kids that got bald spots doing things like that. I wouldn't think repetitve anything would be good for your hair. He could damage the roots permanently!! What can you do?? Probably nothing until he gives it up himself(when he's 60'ish hahaha)
